Being a brand that works daily with drinks suppliers and hospitality brands, we like to stay up to date with what is going on in the world of wine; a drink category that is truly fascinating.

From new, innovative vino brands entering the space to vintage wines uncovered, the diverse world of wine is just incredible.

Just this week we learn that a World War One wine has been salvaged from a UK shipwreck, making the wine a rather intriguing time capsule.

According to sources, an expedition is taking place to salvage 50 bottles of vino from a shipwreck. The ship was said to be torpedoed off of the Cornish coast in 1918. Led by Cookson Adventures, this expedition will look to bring the bottles on board, expected to be worth millions of pounds!

The British ship went down on a trip from Bordeaux back to Britain before it was torpedoed by a German U-Boat. Now, there is a great deal of interest in the cargo that it went down withit, especially the wines, champagnes and potentially rare spirits.

Jules Guyot at the University of Burgundy in Dijon, said:

“This is an extremely exciting project, which definitely falls within our expertise and interest for the chemical messages brought by very old samples of wines, spirits and other beverages, as shown for instance in our recent joint research on Baltic Champagnes with Prof. Philippe Schmitt-Kopplin from Technical University of Munich, and Prof. Philippe Jeandet from University of Reims.

“There is no doubt that the samples extracted from the site will have great historical significance as we are not aware of such a wide and aged variety of wine, champagne and brandy being found before in UK waters. This will be hugely important for our ongoing research and for world history as we know it.”

The lengths people will go to for a wine; ay?
